Yena Lee (@letterhead234) is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Media, Technology, and Society at Northwestern University School of Communication. She holds a B.A. in Media Studies from the University of California Berkeley. For her undergraduate thesis, she wrote about feminist K-pop fans and their resistance against misogynistic K-pop lyrics and toxic fandom culture. She plans to expand her work on feminist activism by further engaging in literature on social movement, critical affordance studies, and postcolonial feminist theories to study political activists’ appropriation of internet technologies from a cross-cultural perspective that is critical of the social, political, and cultural connections and disconnections that these technologies create.
