Lori Kido Lopez

Lori Kido Lopez is a Professor of Communication Arts and Associate Dean for Social Sciences in the College of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Lopez has published many books on race media. She is the author of Asian American Media Activism: Fighting for Cultural Citizenship, Micro Media Industries: Hmong American Media Innovation in the Diaspora, and Race and Digital Media: An Introduction. She is the editor of Race and Media: Critical Approaches, and co-editor of the Routledge Companion to Asian American Media. Her work examines race and ethnicity in the media through a cultural studies lens, deploying ethnography and interviews to examine the way that Asian Americans and other minority groups use media in the fight for social justice. Her current research examines Asian American audiences amidst the boom in Asian American media representations.
Lopez received a PhD in Communication from the University of Southern California, an MA in Mass Communication from Indiana University, and a BA in Asian Studies and Media Studies from Pomona College. She is mixed race Japanese American and is originally from Portland, OR.
